Colonial statues to be removed from the public space.

Arts and Culture minister; Mr Nkosinathi Emmanuel ‘Nathi’ Mthethwa, reiterated that statues belong to the colonial system should not occupy the public space.

He also made a reference to the removal of Ukraine statues that belong to the Soviet Union in Russia when such system was eradicated during 80’s and 90’s.

He said the statue of Vladimir Lenin was removed from the public space after the fall of Soviet Union and put in the museum for tourism purposes.

He suggested that those colonial statues in South Africa should not be demolished but they are to be removed and kept in the museum for tourism orientation.
